Rock Climbing

Rock climbing has found increasing popularity among the tourists coming into Nepal as well as for local enthusiasts. Most of the spots are situated to the north and northwest of the valley, in the vicinity of the Nagarjun Royal forest and the Shivapuri watershed and wildlife reserve. Your rock climbing trip can therefore be combined with bird watching, game watching and experiencing some of the last of the valley’s wilds.

Balazu Rock Climbing, The cliff here is located inside the Nagarjun forest reserve suitable for both beginners and experienced Climbers. The limestone rock face is about 12-15 m high and bears the remnants of earlier climbs. You could always do a free climb if experienced enough or use the friendlier chocks.

Another interesting rock wall is situated on the slope of Shivapuri hill to the north of Kathmandu. Drive approx. 9 km up to Budhailkantha, the shrine of the sleeping Vishnu, then walk west from the bus stop the Vishnumati stream through terraced fields and enters the Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife reserve. The granite faces here lie scattered about, and the big cliff in the center is equipped with a single route.

Rock Climbing in Hattiban, Lalitpur. It takes approx. 1 hour to reach there by bus. Its only 20 km from Kathmandu Valley. Short drive and 15 minutes walk from main road. There are 8 route and are alredy bolted. You can have perfect view of typical village same time Buddhist monasteries.

Rock Climbing in Bimal Nagar, is newly open and it is on the way to the Pokhara, very good rock wall for climbing, you can enjoy the view of Mt. Manaslu and Marshyandi River flowing. The first day we travel to Bimalnagar and spend the afternoon climbing; later we enjoy dinner and camping. This is the perfect trip to combine with a journey to Pokhara, Bandipur, or Annapurna trekking. Bimal Nagar is about 70km before Pokhara (from Kathmandu) and just before Dumre, the turn off for the Annapurna trekking start-point. Also nearby is Bandipur, a beautiful village famed for is preserved ancient Newari buildings. If you don’t have enough time or you just want to spent time inside the valley there are also indoor wall climbing. You don’t need to worry about Climbing equipment you can rent it in thamel or it is available at place of wall climbing.
